Sea Turtle Inc.
We adopted Hang Ten in 2022.

Hang Ten's Patient History

Hang Ten hatched from Nest #23 during our 2009 nesting season with a unique birth defect. Her front flipper was forked and curled underneath her body. She was released on the beach with the rest of the hatchlings from her nest, but washed up several hours later.
In adopting her, we can support Sea Turtle Inc.'s effort to rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles in the gulf.
In 2024 we continued our support and adopted Poppy the Loggerhead!

Poppy's Patent History

She is considered non-releasable because of damage caused by a boat strike. Boat propellers can strike a turtle’s shell and cause them to float with their hind end up, hence the term ‘bubble butt.’ Bubble butt turtles are often deemed non-releasable as it interferes with their ability to survive in the wild; they would not be able to dive down and forage for food and they float at the top of the water column, making them susceptible to future boat strikes. She has three lead weights epoxied to her shell that allow her to dive/swim more normally. This is only a temporary fix as the weights will fall off over time as the turtles grow, so it would not be suitable to release sea turtles with weights attached to their shells.

More adoptions to come in 2025

Save The Manatee Club
We adopted Betsy in 2024. Our goal is to educate on why Manatees are important in the conservation efforts to restore sea life habitats.

Betsy

Location: Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

Nicknamed by her namesake as "The Inspector," Betsy the manatee is very friendly and curious, and she is quick to investigate anything new.
